The Friends of the Heart of America Shakespeare Volunteer Corps is a special group of individuals who love theatre and Shakespeare. We promote the growth and development of the Festival through year-round activities and events, fundraising support for additional programs and projects, and volunteer support in Southmoreland Park during the Festival.

 Schedule of Friends Events and Activities for 2007

Friends’ activities include:

• Free educational and behind-the-scenes programs prior to the summer Festival to prepare for the play.

• Coordinate the Shakespeare Festival’s Poster and Sonnet Contest – an educational opportunity for students to learn about the magic of Shakespeare.

• Participate in fundraising activities throughout the year and during the Festival to raise money for Festival programs.

• Produce the “Reel Bard Festival” – held in the month prior to Festival productions.

• The Friends write and distribute The Festival Times, quarterly newsletter of the Heart of America Shakespeare Festival.

• Join in Shakespeare activities throughout the year to stay involved and aware. This includes attending other Shakespeare performances throughout the Kansas City metropolitan area.

When you become a member of the Friends of the Festival, you receive:
Invitation to attend the Dress Rehearsal Cast picnic on the Festival grounds.
Unlimited access to the special Friends’ seating section at the Festival.
Special volunteer opportunities on Festival evenings in the park.
Invitation to special events and parties throughout the year.
Free subscription to The Festival Times.
